Der militärische und zivile Alltag im 18. Jahrhundert wird in zahlreichen Facetten mit Akteuren aus ganz Europa illustriert und ermöglicht einen Einblick in das alltägliche und kulturelle Leben in der Weserstadt im Jahr 1759. Begleitet durch Vorträge und Informationsveranstaltungen wird ein authentischer Einblick in die Geschichte gegeben. Publikumsführungen informieren über das historische Ereignis unter Einbeziehung der Mindener Ortsteile an historischen Stationen vom Schlachtfeld bis zur Lazarettkirche in der Festung.

"Because no words can color the horror ...": On the scene of the Battle of Minden
Shortly after the Battle of Minden a lot of maps were published, showing the topographical conditions and the tactical approach of the opponents. They testify the importance that also contemporaries saw in the battle of August 1st, 1759. The excistance of these maps of the battle also show, how their creators tried to gain sovereignty of interpretation of the battle itself. On the occasion of the 250th Anniversary, the Minden Marketing GmbH commissioned a current research study, including historical maps and archival material.

The results obtained bring up the possibility to experience the former location of the battle again today. The battle fields are visited by bus or bicycle led by experts explaining distinctive topographical points. Historical facts, tactics of warfare and voices of witnesses add to a lively picture of what was happening back in that time.

The Minden Marketing GmbH offers tours by bus on 19th June, 26th June, 10th July and 17th July 2009 at 16.00h. For organizational reasons, we ask you to register at the Minden Marketing GmbH.

For groups tours by bus (2 hours) or bicycle (3,5 hours) to the original locations of the battle can be booked from April at any time.

Accompanied by lectures and information events you will get an authentic insight into history. Guided tours for the public give information about the historical event including Minden districts at historical stations, from the battlefield to the military church hospital within the fortress.
